Flora is a young florist, She has her own shop in the High Street of a small Market Town called Ashbury Bottom.
Being a florist is something she’s always wanted to do. Flora has always loved nature and can even sometimes be heard talking to birds, animals and even insects... which she curses!
After helping out at weekends and then working full time in ‘Bea’s Flower Shop’. Her Aunt Beatrice passed the shop on to Flora when things got a bit too much for her. Flora has changed nothing except the shop’s name. It is now ‘Flora’s Flowers’...
Aunt Bea has retired but is still active, and may be seen riding around the town on her mobility scooter with a red flag in a manner one might call reckless! “Mind your toes Aunt Bea’s about!”
She’s always on hand to help, which is fine for advice, but asking aunt Bea to do something can be more trouble than it’s worth ! Poor soul is rather forgetful.
Flora’s constant companions are her Jack Russell dog Eb and her cat called Purr. Not forgetting her horse Rocket –who definitely doesn’t live up to his name!..
She is bright, knowledgeable about all flowers, but above all - Flora is keen and wants to make her shop a success.
The other member of the shop team is JOSH PYNE, a young man with ambition. He’s a whizz on a skate board and wants to attain world class standard, but all that takes money. He left school and passed his driving test, then pestered Flora for a job – they’re cousins – not close, Flora shrugged and took him on. Josh sees working for Flora as a bit of a doddle and takes liberties...Trouble is, everybody seems to like Josh – the lovable rogue who can speak to anyone on equal terms. That’s a plus, though for Flora there are plenty of minuses! But when it comes to the put to JOSH will always be loyal to his “Cuz”.
He drives the shop van. A lovingly restored Morris 1000, with painted flowers on the side.
Flora lives in a house just outside the town, which she shares with Eb and Purr. Her back garden is laid to flowers and vegetables and she has a few chickens for a regular egg supply. Flora lives near the Town so she’s able to ride her bike to the shop each day. It’s a real old -sit-up-and-beg- bike, with a basket on the handlebars large enough to carry flowers on bouquet deliveries. It also has a box on the back for Eb
The shop has a counter and window flower displays. At the back is a small courtyard, where Flora has a cold room for the flowers and a back gate. The Courtyard area is full of bird boxes and a small central pond that contains frogs and newts.
